Real Wedding – A Glorious Summer Wedding in Cambridge – Leila and Johnnie’s Wedding

January can be such a gloomy month. Christmas is over, the weather is colder and the nights are longer. So we thought this was the perfect time to reminisce about one of the favourite weddings of 2014.

What we loved most about this wedding, other than the fact that Leila and Johnnie were such a charming couple, is the fact that the two days were truly unique and personal to them. Personal touches are so important in making your wedding fun, different and special – and this wedding certainly had that and much, much more.

Our lovely clients, Leila and Johnnie, had a romantic, fun and very sunny wedding in Cambridge in June 2014. The wedding festivities actually took place over two days and involved six different venues.

Johnnie and Leila had always planned to do things a bit differently and were determined not to have a “cookie cutter” wedding. Early on in their plans they knew they wanted to hire a wedding planner and we were so thrilled to get the call from them. We assisted them to find their perfect venues, book all their wedding suppliers and manage the two wedding days.

Their legal marriage ceremony took place on the Friday, at the Cambridge Registry Office, but not before a small group of 20 close friends and family joined them for an intimate meditation ceremony at the Hotel du Vin in Cambridge. Dinner that night was at The Back Street Bistro.

The second day of their wedding involved four lovely venues in the historic City of Cambridge. It all started at the Cambridge Union Society.  The lovely Rebecca Waldron of White Rose Ceremonies presided over a bespoke and very personal Humanist blessing. During the blessing, Leila and Johnnie exchanged their own handwritten vows and guests got involved with a sing-a-long to “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Andy Williams.

Humanist blessing

Leila looked beautiful in her gorgeous dress which she got at David’s Bridal at Westfields in Stratford. The Bridal Bouquet, consisted of sunflowers, which were an ongoing theme for the day, having been featured on their Wedding Invitations, Order of Service, Naked Wedding Cake and Table Centrepieces. Leila and her bridal party had their hair done at Hairy Canary in Cambridge.

After the blessing, guests joined Leila and Johnnie for ice cream and drinks in the sunny courtyard of the Cambridge Union Society.

It was then time for stage two of their special day. Guests were handed white and yellow balloons before being lead through the streets of Cambridge by the Bride and Groom down to the River Cam for a private punting tour by Cambridge Chauffeur Punts. Their journey would take them on to the Reception venue, Trinity College, Cambridge.

The sun shone whilst 120 wedding guests enjoyed fresh strawberries and champagne whilst sitting back and relaxing on a traditional chauffeured punt up the river Cam. The British weather really could not have been better. Leila and Johnnie had their own punt, as they should, and were able to enjoy some time together before rejoining the rest of their guests.

Johnnie studied at Trinity College, and as a past student, they were able to have their wedding reception here. When they were searching for their perfect wedding venue location, they looked at many beautiful and traditional venues. But the moment they walked into the grounds of Trinity and saw magnificent Hall, they knew that no where else would do. They fell in love with it immediately.

As guests were assisted off their punts they were welcomed by the staff at Trinity and escorted to the Cloisters for a drinks reception, with delicious canapés and yes, more champagne!

There are so many beautiful backdrops and settings at Trinity College, that our photographer, Kate Nielen, was spoilt for choice.  The official photographs of this lovely couple, their family and guests, took place by the lush lawns, which are sacred at Trinity. Kate had special permission to walk on the grass – a very rare privilege. Guests were asked to remain on the paths.

The sumptuous wedding breakfast was served in Hall at Trinity and dinner was prepared by their amazing in-house chefs. The flowers for the banqueting tables were provided by Donna at Country Garden Florists consisting of sunflowers, gerberas and mini daisies. Each arrangement was designed by Leila and put together by the Stylish Events team on the day.

Following dinner, guests were asked to follow Leila and Johnnie to the final wedding venue of the day. The atmosphere was to change once again, this time to an amazing evening party. So, balloons once again in hand, guests walked to The Hidden Rooms, where a VIP area had been roped off for them.

Leila and Johnnie’s “naked” wedding cake, complete with sunflowers and Batman and Catwoman caricatures, was cut with real swords, which were a gift to Leila. Everyone then danced the night away until the wee small hours.

The perfect ending to a perfect day.

“We wanted to say one more huge thanks to you all. The two days were perfect in every way. Everything lived up to and exceeded our expectations, and we both know it wouldn’t have come close without all the hard work you did.

If there is ever anything we can do for you, if you need any testimonials or references just let us know. We are your biggest fans! :)”

Real Wedding: An Elegant Summer Wedding at Stoke Park, Buckinghamshire

Today we are delighted to share with you one of our real weddings from the Summer of 2014.

Anna and Michael designed an elegant and romantic summer wedding at the beautiful Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire. They found us as their wedding day was getting closer, and wanted our help to recommend suppliers, assist with the design and to ensure the whole day ran exactly how they wished it to be.

Working closely with this incredibly organised Russian bride and her German groom, we assisted them to design and plan the wedding in an amazing jam-packed 8 weeks together.

Anna had exquisite taste and knew the exact style she wanted for her wedding – chic, sophisticated, soft and romantic. They also both wanted the day to be fun for their 75 guests, and most importantly, full of music.

The ceremony took place in the stunning Ballroom, which was decorated with gorgeous flower arrangments by one of our favourite florists, Chantal from Chantal Flores Design. The wonderful thing about having a June wedding is the array of flowers that are in season at that time of year, so the arrangements were full of soft pink and cream peonys, David Austin roses and sweet peas. The fragrance filled the room and I think you will agree they are absoltely beautiful.

To mark the aisle the Stylish Events team laid fresh rose petals and we also created and made the confetti cones which were thrown by the guests to congratulate the Bride and Groom on becoming husband and wife.

Following the ceremony the drinks reception was held on the terrace overlooking the glorious grounds of Stoke Park. Guests were treated to afternoon tea, including cupcakes topped with Russian dolls, whilst playing croquet and accompanied by music from one of our favourite DJs Mighty Fine Entertainment.

Just before dinner the Stylish Events team handed out 100’s of balloons to the guests for a balloon release, which was such a lovely touch to the day.

Special touches were sprinkled around the venue to embrace the cultural heritage of Anna and Michael, including Matreshka dolls, German gingerbread hearts, a monogrammed golden post box and on the bar there were giant pretzels and mini schnapps bottles.

After dinner Anna, Michael and their guests truly let their hair down and enjoyed great music from Metropolis Live, followed by a DJ set from  Mighty Fine, accompanied by a sax and bongo player, well into the wee small hours of the morning. There was also a great disco photo booth from the team at The Mighty Booth.

We have been lucky enough to organise a number of Russian Weddings in the UK, mainly due to amazing Marina, who is our Russian wedding planner. She was able to assist all of their Russian guests, particularly those who only spoke Russian, so they could enjoy this magical day. Marina also hand-made this beautiful Table Plan.

It was such an honour to be chosen by this lovely couple as their Wedding Planners for their beautiful Russian and German wedding day. They were very kind to send us this message (in English and Russian) after their wedding:

You created the most perfect wedding day for us.  You were very hard working, professional, courteous and kind. Your positive attitude was infectious. Your creative thinking was inspirational. We especially appreciated your attention to detail, responsiveness (even over the weekends and late nights) and your cost effective solutions to our ideas. We felt so comfortable to entrust you with organising our special day. We are forever grateful.”
-Anna and Michael.

“От всего сердца хотим выразить свою благодарность Доминик, Бекке, Марине и всей команде Stylish Events за великолепную организацию нашей свадьбы. Becca Cole – My Story So Far

As you may have already seen on various social media posts, the lovely Angelique Franklin (aka our star blogger) has moved on to pursue her obsession and passion through launching her company ‘I Love Nails’. We miss her so much already, but luckily for us she still pops into the Stylish office for a cup of tea and a gossip! I’m afraid this means that you’re stuck with me. I thought for my first blog, I would share with you my experiences and how I came to be a part of Stylish Events.

I first met Dominique when I attended her very first ‘Life of a Wedding Planner’ course in March 2012 which I heard about through a friend who was studying Event Management at Greenwich University. Having completed my degree in Event Management at UWIC University in Cardiff in 2011, I was keen to learn more about the world of wedding planning, so booked onto the course immediately. It was so inspiring to learn in such depth all about the planning process, seeing real event proposals, plans, budgets, schedules and learning about Dominique’s experiences. But I think one of my favourite parts was flicking through amazing albums of real past events and weddings. At the time, I had no idea where that would lead me, but I couldn’t be happier that I attended Dominique’s course.

In June 2012, I was so delighted when Dominique asked me to assist her at one of her events. This Bat Mitzvah celebration hosted at The Reform Club was a dream 13th birthday party with a chocolate fountain, an ice cream stand, casino tables, a photo booth,  a four tier blue and gold cake and last but certainly not least…a very special performance by Diversity! It really was a fantastic event and I was so honoured and proud to have been a part of it and knew that Dominique was a true professional and a planner who could teach me so much more.

I instantly applied for an internship following the Bat Mitzvah and couldn’t have been happier when Dominique offered me a four month internship at Stylish Events starting in November 2012. This was not my first experience as an intern but was by far the best and so much more than I could have ever imagined. Dominique took the time to pass on her knowledge and really involved me in extensive research and meetings, venue hunting, looking at budgets and creating mood boards. In my short four months at Stylish Events I had learnt so much about wedding planning and was so lucky to be involved in a real event which was a two day wedding in Buckinghamshire at Hedsor House.

In March 2013 my internship was due to end and this was when I was offered a position within the company alongside Dominique and Angelique as the Event Manager. I felt as if all of my dreams had come true and couldn’t wait to continue with the weddings I had been working on as an intern. It turned out that 2013 was an incredibly busy year for the team at Stylish Events and we are so proud of the weddings we have been involved in. We love helping our clients design their dream day and it’s such an amazing feeling to see it all come together.

Anna and Luke's Wedding Photos1

So that brings me to the present and the future and I am so proud to say that as of January 2014, I am now a Partner at Stylish Events.

I have been asked which is my favourite wedding of 2013, which is an incredibly hard question to answer. Every single wedding we were involved in last year has been entirely different. If I really had to choose one that stands out to me, it’s our autumnal themed wedding at the amazing Aynhoe Park in Oxfordshire for Clare and Patrick. What I loved the most about this wedding was the colours, the décor was so warm and inviting and it complemented this quirky and slightly crazy venue perfectly. Clare had the most exquisite taste and her attention to detail was second to none. Clare and Patrick made it clear from the very first meeting that their priority was their guests. They wanted their close friends and family to have the best experience possible and spent hours planning and putting together a personally selected wine list, a lavish five course meal, their favourite cocktails and of course, they all had the most fantastic time. Weddings are all about the personal touches and this really came across on the day.

It’s all been a bit of a whirlwind since my first meeting with Dominique almost two years ago, and I am very much looking forward to another year with more weddings, more events and more fun!

Chic Winter Wedding in Mayfair, London – Anna and Luke’s Wedding

Anna and Luke had a classic, elegant and chic winter wedding. The ceremony was held at the beautiful St Mary’s Church, The Boltons and was followed by an evening reception at the fabulous Connaught Hotel, Mayfair.

2013-12-14 16.29.11

Working closely with the bride, her mother and the groom, who all had superb taste, we designed this wedding together from start to finish in four months.

Guests were transported to The Connaught by coach whilst sipping champagne and were greeted with a jazz band Booth Street West and a champagne drinks reception, followed by a delicious dinner in the stunning art deco Mayfair Ballroom.

With gorgeous floral centrepieces by Chantal Flores Design, chic service wear from the Connaught, a macaron pyramid by Ladurée, a four tier cheese tower by Churchmouse Cheeses, elegant Chandelle chairs from Great Hire, and white LED dance floor, lighting and great music from Mighty Fine Entertainment.

This wedding truly was the epitome of understated elegance.
